Spain, Community of Spain, Alcalá de Henares. Archbishop's Palace (Episcopal Palace). Commissioned in 1209 by Archbishop Rodrigo Jiménez de Rada (1170-1247) as the summer residence of the Lords of Alcalá, the archbishops of Toledo. Successive bishops enlarged the building. Architectural detail of the Tenorio Turret (Torreón de Tenorio), which owes its name to Pedro Tenorio, archbishop of Toledo between 1377 and 1399, who fortified the palace. Construction of the building was not completed until the 16th century.
