KINGS SOMBORNE HUNDRED also thereby authorized to apply the residue of theincome in the formation of a fund for the erection ofadditional almshouses, or in payment of pensions,donations in aid of the funds of any dispensary,hospital or convalescent home, or any institutionin which children suffering from any bodilyinfirmity are taught a trade. The almspeople andpensioners to be poor women of good character andto receive not less than 5^. a week, with a preferencefor those who are resident in the area which consti-tuted the borough of Romsey previous to its enlarge-ment in 1876. In December 1906 a sum of £240was in hand towards providing additional almshouses. Bartletts Almshouses.—In 1809 John Bartlett, bydeed (enrolled) 11 September 1809, conveyed totrustees six messuages and gardens in Middle BridgeStreet upon trust to permit six single women to livetherein.
