NEW MEXICO, USA - 16 August 1960 - An automatic camera records the instant USAF Captain Joseph W. Kittinger II ( 1928-2022 ) bails out of the balloon gondola to make the highest altitude drop ( final high-altitude jump at 102,800 feet (31,300 m ) in history (a record not broken until 2012 ).
