Pacific War, 1941-1945. Imperial Japanese Navy Kamikaze Pilot Lieutenant Fukuda Koetsu, circa 1944. Lieutenant Fukuda was killed in action upon ramming his Yokosuka P1Y bomber into aircraft carrier USS Randolph during the kamikaze attack on Ulithi Atoll in March 1945. After his death Fukuda was posthumously promoted to the rank of commander.
