Nm w Japanese Climbing—The seed of this new Cucumber originally came from Japan, and has created quite a sensation. It has proved thoroughly adapted to open air culture as far as tested in America. The young plants are bushy, but as soon as they become well established they begin to climb, and may be grown on fences, poles or trellises, thus saving much space in small gardens or market gardens where land is dear. The engraving shows my crop growing for seed the past season at Fairview Farm, and was accurately sketched and engraved by my artist while on the grounds. Vines are of healthy vigorous growth, dark green foliage, and they cling so tightly that they are not prostrated by heavy storms of wind or rain. They come int > bearing quickly and continue to set the fruit throughout the season, and its habit of growth enables the fruit to grow perfectly straight and of large size, of from twelve to fifteen inehes in length, of a fine green color. Flesh is thick and firm, never bitter, and fine for pickling and slicing. They are very prolific bearers and continue until late in the fall.
