Cell housing, Hong Kong. Cell houses are a type of accommodation that exists in Hong Kong, one of the most crowded and densely populated cities in the world. The rooms are cramped units, large enough for a bed and a few possessions, but little else. Other facilities will be shared with other residents. Cell housing is a variant on cage housing, with the units divided by plywood instead of metal bars, but sometimes even more crowded. This cell housing block was recently granted a renting license by the government. The ladder leads to a larger cell with a window, where the 4-year-old boy (lower left) lives with his parents.
