Docw joined the One Hundred and Twenty-first Regi-lnent N. V. S. Volunteers when that regiment first entered theservice, the 23d of August, L862, at Camp Schuyler, Herkimercounty, N. a- first Lieutenant of Company I. He servedin that capacity until shortly after the battle of Antietam, whenhis soldierly bearing and attention to duty attracted the noticeof Maj. Gen. Slocum, commanding First Division. Sixth ArmyCorps. The General at once placed Lieut. Dorw on his stall asordnance officer, which arduous ami responsible position he tilledwith credit, until shortly after the first Fredericksburg battle,when he left his staff appointment to accept the Captaincy ofCompany K in his own regiment, a promotion justly took con imam 1 of his company, and led it in the terrible battle.
