Salt lake sores, Senegal. Close-up of sores on the skin of a worker on Lake Retba, a salt lake on the Cap Vert peninsula in Senegal. This lake has an extremely high salt concentration. High concentrations of salt can cause damage to human skin and animals and plants in and around the lake. Salt collectors work in this lake for many hours each day, using a butter produced from Shea tree nuts to protect their skin.
