Water Melons are cultivated in hills, whicli should be eix to eight feet apart each way. and composed of light, moderately rich soil. The hills should be dug about two feet square, eighteen inches deep, and half filled with well- rotted manure, which must be thoroughly incorporated with the soil. Plant in May, ten seeds to^a hill, and when the plants are well up, thin out to three. Cultivate until the vines cover the ground, and pinch the ends of the growing shoots to induce early fruiting. Mountain Sweet. The most popular variety grown ; fruit of oblong shape; flesh red, firm and sweet. Per ; oz., lOcts.; 34 20 cts.: ft)., 60 cts. KOIiB'S Gli^M. Largely grown, particularly in the South, for shipment to Northern markets. As a shipping melon it has hardly an equal.
