Berlin Funkturm Radio Tower. Former broadcasting tower with steel framework has restaurant and observation deck. Listed building is protected monument & landmark The tower was built between 1924 and 1926 to designs by the architect Heinrich Straumer. It was inaugurated on 3 September 1926 at the opening of the third Große Deutsche Funkausstellung (Great German Radio Exhibition) in the grounds of the Messe Berlin trade fair. The 150m tower is a landmark and tourist attraction and is a protected monument. The first regular television program in the world was broadcast from the tower in 1935 and it was used for West German television transmissions until 1962 and for radio transmissions until 1973. It is still used as relay station for amateur radio, police radio, and mobile phone services.
