Vintage portrait of English middleweight boxer Charley Mitchell (1861 - 1918). Mitchell, born in Birmingham, had more than 100 bare-knuckle and gloved bouts during his career and often fought men who were much bigger than him. He twice fought John L Sullivan (1883 and 1888) and also fought James J Corbett for the World Heavyweight Championship in 1894 - Corbett knocked him out in the 3rd round.
