The monument to Admiral Lord Collingwood oct 24 1748 mar 7 1810 stands on a cliff top at Tynemouth on England s north east coast as if standing guard over the mouth of the river Tyne The monument is a tribute to Collingwood s heroic action at the battle of Trafalgar at which he took command of the British fleet on the death of Admiral Lord Nelson After Trafalgar he continued to command the Mediterranean fleet until his death at sea in 1810 He is buried next to Nelson in Saint Paul s Cathedral London
