The Jami al-Tawarikh, (Universal History) is an Iranian work of literature and history written by Rashid-al-Din Hamadani at the start of the 14th century. These miniatures were done predominately in reds and blues, which are among the finest early Islamic paintings to have survived. They date from 1314 and are illustrative of the varied elements (Byzantine, Chinese and Persian) that produced the Mongol style. This miniature shows Noah (Nuh) and his three sons, set sail in the Ark, which is shown as a dhow with double steering oar.
