Monument to commemorate the Great Fire of London in 1666. Built by Sir Christopher Wren and Dr Robert Hooke during 1671-1677. It is 202 feet high (62 metres), the exact distance from the fire's source in a baker's shop in Pudding Lane. The 50m high balcony is reached by climbing a 311-step spiral staircase. It is made from Portland stone and is the tallest free standing Doric column in the world.
