Met Office data entry system. Met Office employee using a device to punch data onto a Hollerith card from a weather report fastened to a document holder. The card will then be processed with a Hollerith machine, a mechanical tabulating device named after the US statistician Herman Hollerith (1860-1929), who invented it for use in collating census data. The Met Office is the UK's national weather monitoring and forecasting service. The Hollerith machines it used included models produced by the British Tabulating Machine Company, which made devices like this between 1920 and 1959.
