Myrna Loy from a 1930s Ross Verlag card

Myrna Loy publicity still from about 1936 from a Ross Verlag card. This image has had some digital restoration. Ross Verlag produced 22 miniature photo packs between 1933 and 1938 of major film stars of the period. Myrna Loy was an American film, television and stage actress. Trained as a dancer, Loy devoted herself fully to an acting career following a few minor roles in silent films. She was originally typecast in exotic roles, often as a vamp or a woman of Asian descent, but her career prospects improved greatly following her portrayal of Nora Charles in The Thin Man (1934). In 1934, Loy appeared in Manhattan Melodrama with Clark Gable and William Powell. Her successes in Manhattan Melodrama and The Thin Man marked a turning point in her career and she was cast in more important pictures.
