Crossing the bridge into the most sacred place in Japan, Okunoin, where Kobo Daishi rests in eternal meditation, in winter

Okunoin is the temple where Kobo Daishi (Kukai), one of the most revered persons in Japan's history, rests in eternal meditation. The temple ground is considered the most sacred of places in Japan and photography within is strictly prohibited. Visitors are requested to respect the sacred sanctuary. Upon entering, one is filled with a sense of surreality hard to describe with words.
