PLASMODIUM VIVAX MALARIA
This thin film blood smear micrograph depicts a P. vivax ring with 2 chromatin dots; Magnified 1125X. Sporozoites infect liver cells and mature into schizonts, which rupture and release merozoites, further infecting more red blood cells. It is the ring stage trophozoites that mature into schizonts, rupturing and releasing additional merozoites.
