Apollo Command Module, cutaway illustration. This spacecraft was used during the Apollo programme which landed astronauts on the Moon. It was cone-shaped, with base diameter of metres. It housed a crew of three, as well as the main control panels, guidance and navigation systems, equipment lockers, food, and a docking tunnel. The Command Module was connected to the Service Module which provided propulsion. After completion of the mission the Service Module was jettisoned prior to the Command Module's re-entry and splashdown.
