Crohn's disease. Light micrograph of a section through intestinal tissue in a case of Crohn's disease of the bowel. This inflammatory chronic disease is characterized by disruption and disorganization of the glands of the lining of the intestine. Abscesses and fissures are common. Excess mucus is produced by the glands and inflammatory reactions include the abnormally large numbers of infiltrating white blood cells between the disrupted intestinal glands.
