An illustrative, exhilarating circumstancealong those lines was the opening of the New YorkCity 50-million bond sale proposals last Friday. Onlythink of the temerity of Comptroller Metz expectingto wring from the dry husks of our already apparentlyexhausted financial resources such a mass of freshcapital and to raise up such a body of buyers as the callassumed was in existence ready to supply the adver-tised want. Certainly if the Comptroller took a surveyof Wall Street doings, or looked into the countenancesof our investors, or consulted the management of ourcorporate enterprises, he could not have found muchinducement to persevere.
