Queen Mother the widow of a king and mother of the sovereign. Elizabeth, the Queen Mother (1900–2002), wife of George VI; born Lady Elizabeth Angela Marguerite Bowes-Lyon. She married George VI in 1923, when he was Duke of York; they had two daughters, Elizabeth II and Princess Margaret.
