Arp 273 interacting galaxies, Hubble Space Telescope (HST) image. At top is the spiral galaxy UGC 1810, with a smaller companion spiral galaxy, UGC 1813, below (seen nearly edge-on) Across top is a band of clusters of intensely bright and hot young blue stars, glowing fiercely in ultraviolet light. These galaxies are some 340 million light years from Earth, located in the constellation of Andromeda. This image shows a region 260,000 light years across, and was obtained with the Wide Field Camera 3 (WFC3) instrument in both ultraviolet and visible light. Image data obtained in December 2010, and published in April 2011.
