Turkey/Hungary: 'The Battle of Mohacs', a painting from the illustrated manuscript 'Suleymanname' by Arif Celebi, dated 1558. The Battle of Mohács was fought on August 29, 1526 near Mohács in Hungary. The forces of King Louis II of Hungary and Bohemia were defeated by the Ottoman army led by Sultan Suleyman the Magnificent. The Ottoman victory marked the end of the Jagiellon dynasty in Hungary which was partitioned for several centuries between the Ottoman Empire, the Habsburg Monarchy, and the Principality of Transylvania.
