He was an Elder in the church for manyyears, and he was foremost in every thing that was for thegood of the community in which he lived. On coming tothe country he took up a large tract of Government land onPigeon Creek and built a primitive double log-cabin, whichwas always a pleasant and desirable place to visit. His wifewas an old-time gentlewoman and an excellent wife, wholooketh well to the ways of her household, and the royalcheer of that hospitable home was a great attraction as well 30. as the genial welcome that was extended by the old Judgeto his numerous friends. His pleasant stories of early timesin these Western wilds were a source of great enjoyment tohis young listeners to whom he was particularly decendants may well be proud of their venerable ances-tor. He died in 1865.
