Atthe opening of WellesleyCollege, he was appointedits professor of music, and planned the entire work of the music department, which had at the outset two teachers and eightpianos. In 1884 he resigned his position at Wellesley College, leaving a college of mijsic, thirty-sixpianos, two pipe organs and a music hall, entirely for musical work, which cost $30,000, and nine teachersbesides himself. At the Conservatory there have been taught in the four years during which it has beenorganized no less than i,ooo students. The attendance has been from twenty-seven States and Terri-tories, including (the N. E. and Middle States) Massachusetts, British Columbia, Manitoba, Missouri,Nebraska and New Mexico. Minneapolis is to be congratulated upon having a gentleman of sucheminence at the head of her musical ^mm^
