Entrance to Ffynnon Beuno cave in a south-facing limestone cliff on the E side of the Vale of Clwyd, North Wales, UK. Excavations in 1885 discovered prehistoric stone tools & animal bones mixed together in a meltwater debris flow. The earliest flint tool found was an Aurignacian leaf point of c 36,000BC. Mostly occupied by animals (cave hyenas etc.) but humans lived in the area at different periods during the Early Upper Palaeolithic & used the cave as a temporary shelter. Ffynnon Beuno is on private land & the cave is locked, permission is required to visit it.
