Galenite in pyrite. Sample of octahedral galenite, or galena, crystals (grey) in a bed of pyrite (gold-coloured). Galenite is a primary mineral with widespread occurrence and is the main ore of lead. Pyrite, or iron pyrite, is the most widespread sulphide mineral known. This specimen was found in the Daira mine, Ugo, Japan, and measures 130 mm wide.
