But to answer the purpos-es of the surgeon, it is absolutely necessary to treat ofeach twig distinctly, in order that its relation to other partsmay be impressed on the mind of an operator. This one artery, the primitive trunk, is the aorta, rear-ing itself out of the left ventricle of the heart: collectivelythe parent tube, with its subdivisions into thousands oftortuous pipes, is denominated the aortic system; andwhen arteries and veins are spoken of together, as a whole,the term sanguiferous system is used. 136 ANATOMICAL CLASS BOOK.
