Michel de l’Hospital (1505-1573). French writer and politician. Counsellor in the Parlement of Paris (1537), ambassador to the Council of Trent and Chancellor of France (1560-1573). Catherine de Medici commissioned him to try to re-establish peaceful coexistence between Catholics and Protestants, although he failed in this attempt. Portrait. Engraving.
