There is not just one Hagia Sophia in Turkey worth to be visited, the one in Istanbul, there is also one in Trabzon, a great example of late Byzantine architecture and iconography. Nowadays a museum, Hagia Sophia ("Ayasofia") is one of the most important sights of Trabzon ("Trebizond", "Τραπεζούντα"= "Trapezounta", in Greek). The Hagia Sophia church was built in Trebizond during the years of the Empire of Trebizond, during the reign of Manuel I between 1238 and 1263.
