HABITAT: Rocky, sandy, and muddy lakeshores. STATUS: Rare in Canada. NOTES: Primarily restricted to Ontario where it occurs along the shores of Georgian Bay, Lake Erie, and west- ern Lake Ontario. Its only known occurrence in the United States is at one locality in northwestern Pennsyl- vania, but it does not appear on the list of rare plants of that state. This variety differs from var. texanum in having broader leaves ( mm) which vary in shape from elliptic to obovate to oblanceolate on the basal half of the stem.
