He very soon ac-quired an extensive and lucrative business, andearly took rank as one of the leading lawyersin that part of the State. He was a pains-taking, fair-minded and upright man; a manof sound judgment, a good and safe possessed, in a very marked degree, therespect and confidence of the community. Hewas quiet and unassuming in his manners, athorough gentleman of the old school, andextremely kind and generous towards the juniormembers
