Some years ago Mr. Etheridge, jun.,2 figured some imperfect fragments of a Schizoneura, from a coal-seam near the top of the Upper Productive Coal-measures in New South Wales, as S. aus- tralis, sp. nov. More recently,3 better preserved specimens from Balmain, New South Wales, have been obtained, and these appear to me to be identical with S. gondwanensis, Feist., of Fig. 4.—Schizoneura gondwanensis, Feist. Iu one of the specimens figured the leaf-bearing axis is terminated by a pair of compact strobili of 2-2*5 cm. in length (Text-fig. 4). Unfortunately, however, the preservation is not sufficiently good to afford any details as to the morphological structure of the cone.
