Inside the Catholic Church of Bethphage on Mt. of Olives, painting shows Christ riding a colt to Jerusalem, Yearly Palm Sunday procession starts here.


Interior of the Franciscan Catholic Church of Bethphage completed in 1883 on the ruins of a 12th century Crusaders church, on the left, under glass, is the Stele of Bethphage a cube like stone which was part of the Crusaders church, it has 12th century frescos on it describing events that occured in the area including revival of Lazarus in nearby Bethany, the painting above the alter showing Jesus Christ riding a colt from here to the Temple Mount and the ones on the ceiling and the walls on either side were painted by Cesare Vagarini in 1955. The church of Bethphage is where the yearly Palm Sunday procession starts going to the Jerusalem Old City as this is the site on Mount Olives where Jesus Christ mounted a colt to ride on it to the Temple Mount the Sunday before his crucifixion.
