Rear Admiral Thawan Thamrongnawasawat, also spelt Thawal Thamrongnavasawat and born Thawan Tharisawat, was the Prime Minister of Thailand from 1946-1947. A career naval officer of Chinese ancestry, Admiral Thamrong was a leading member of the anti-Japanese Seri Thai resistance movement during World War II. He became Thailand's elected Prime Minister on August 23, 1946, replacing Pridi Banomyong. However, he was removed from office by a military coup orchestrated by Field Marshall Plaek Pibulsonggram on November 8, 1947. He was forced to leave the country and lived in Hong Kong for a period.
