Image 25,271 shows 1st Sgt. Harry J. Adams of Co. K, 353rd Inf., 89th Division. Adams arrived on Sept. 12th and was instructed by a lieutenant to search for remaining Germans in town. Adams spotted a German running into a house and followed, witnessing an American soldier exit through a trap door. With two shots left, he fired them through the door and successfully persuaded the remaining German, along with a lieutenant colonel, 18 staff officers, and 355 soldiers, to surrender.
