I caught these little fish in a fresh water pond close to the bay, and suppose that they hadmerely entered to spawn, having observed the same species in salt water. This was in Julyand August, and I did not see anything of them in fresh water at other seasons. Their habitsof building a little nest of grass, roots, &c., like a bird, in which the spawn is deposited andcarefully watched, makes these fish interesting subjects of observation.—C.
