A BEAUTIFUL example of a small inkstand in metal, imitating the^*- shape so common about the same period for large chests. The modelis rare, and the workmanship extremely good. The sides have also in thecentre a mask, connecting rich scrolls of foliated ornament which arecontinued to the corners. The stand rests upon four lions feet. Theinterior of the lid has leafage, and a shield bearing two lions paws erased,in saltire: these may be the arms of the Rasponi family of Ravenna whobore lions paws azure, erased gules, on a golden field. The inkstand is about nine inches long by nearly four high, and fiveinches wide ; it is in perfect condition, and no portion has been restored. Bought for 16/.
