Steam powered tank engine No 11 pulling a three coach train on the Mansfelder Bergwerksbahn near Klostermansfeld Germany

Editorial use only. The narrow gauge Mansfeld Mining Railway (Mansfelder Bergwerksbahn) is situated in the Mansfeld area between Eisleben and Hettstedt at the eastern margin of the Harz mountains. It operates with original steam and diesel locos on some weekends and on reservation. The 11 km long preservation railway is what remains of an up to 45 km long rail network between copper mines, smelting works and standard gauge stations, and therefore forms part of the long mining history in this area.
