The Royal Chapel or Sainte Chapelle housed the Shroud of Turin between 1471-1532, when it was nearly destroyed by fire. During that time the Shroud travelled extensively, accompanying the Dukes of Savoy, but was periodically returned to be held and exhibited. After periods of further travel it was finally moved from Chambery to Turin in 1578, never to return again.
