Cave arthropods. Close-up of a Criptos anomalans centipede (left) confronting a smaller pseudoscorpion. Both these species are found only in the Movile Cave, Romania, where life has been cut off from the outside world for the past million years. They have evolved in total darkness over that time and have lost their eyes as a result. Criptos anomalans uses its oversized antennae (left and right) to hunt for food.
