Solving the Negative Drying Problem. A deluxe, "homemade" negative dryer is used by the Coast Guard photographers who process hundreds of battle photos in the shell-shaken hut where Jap officers lived during the occupation of Guam. Chief Photographer's Mate Windsor Lakis put the contraption together. Air passing through a vent over four electric light bulbs furnishes heat. On rush days, however, lines have to be strung up between a couple of palm trees to takes care of the overflow.
