Kolumna Zygmunta III Wazy (Sigismund III Vasa Column), Plac Zamkowy (Castle Square), Warsaw Old Town, Mazovia, Poland.

With the Zamek Krolewski (Royal Castle) beyond. The 22 metre high column was erected by the King's son in 1644. King Zygmunt moved his capital from Krakow to Warsaw in 1596 and the Royal Castle became one of Europe's most splendid royal residences in the 17 th century in the reign of King Stanislaw August Poniatowski. During World War 2 both the column and castle were destroyed on Hitler's orders, but the statue survived and was placed on a new granite column and the castle entirely rebuilt between 1971 and 1984.
