Varicose eczema treatment. Close-up of an 86-year-old male patient with chronic varicose eczema soaking their legs in moisturiser to remove scaly skin prior to dressing. Eczema is an inflammation of the skin (dermatitis) accompanied by itching and blisters. Varicose eczema, also known as stasis dermatitis, is caused by poor circulation in the veins that results in pooling of blood in the lower limbs. This results in increased pressure in the capillaries with the result that both fluid and cells may leak out of the capillaries. It may be treated using soothing ointments and corticosteroids.
