The largest Easter rush ever ex- perienced by local florists is the con- census of opinion regarding this year's trade. Saturday there was a con- tinued downpour of rain, but notwith- standing this the demand kept stead- ily on and most lines cleaned up. Lilies were fine and sold out to a bloom, and violets, which were in large supply, cleaned out early. Flowering plants of all descriptions, which were in splendid shape, had a good run, and roses had a large sale. The most pleasing feature of the business was the quality of the stock generally, which in every instance was well worth the price asked which was about the same as last year. The window displays about the city were a credit to the retailers. Arthur Jennings, of the large depart- ment store, had a very creditable Easter decoration, ."^n Easter egg 21 feet long was suspended, and from an opening in the top of the egg was a handsome group of palms and lilies. Twenty cases of southern smilax were used in the general decoration, and with numerous groups of palms and lilies the display was most effective. The visit of Prince Arthur of Con- naught, and the opening of the horse show week indicate a large amount of work and a number of good decorations are being booked. Visitors: Wm. F. Kasting. Buffalo, N. Y.: J. N. Cobb. Coburg. Ont.; R. Jen- nings. H. MulHs and Wm. Fendley, Brampton, Ont. H. G. D. Syracuse, N. Y. The great demand this Easter was for plants, and while cut flowers had a large sale it was easy to see that the public is turning more and more to plants at Easter time. The total amount of sales was large, probably the largest in the history of the city. It rained Saturday afternoon, but that did not seem to af- fect trade, and Saturday night almost everything was cleaned out. Some of the florists sm that they would have had a lot of ?.". : flowers "left had it
