The mosquito is a blood-drinking insect, and its saliva contains an anti-clotting agent which prevents the blood clotting while the mosquito is feeding. Mosquito bites may transmit disease. They may acquire an infectious organism from the blood of an infected person or animal, and transfer it to another person during a subsequent bite. Anopheles, Aedes and Culex are the 3 groups of disease-transmitting mosquitoes, transmitting malaria, filariasis, viral encephalitis and yellow fever.
