Grey sky, sunny day view many flat sea ice blocks on beach expanse at edge of calm seawater, east of St Annes, Lancashire, UK

The winter of 2010-2011 included the coldest December since Met Office Records began in 1910. The mean December 2010 temperature was minus 1 degree Celsius. In some places the temperature was down to minus 10 degrees Celsius (14 F). Late November to Boxing Day 2010 included two spells of severe winter weather in the UK with very low temperatures and significant snowfall. The beach between Fairhaven and St Annes, on Lancashire's Fylde Coast, in December 2010 displayed large areas of land-fast sea ice blocks, several centimetres thick. Grey clouds, sunny day view large sea ice blocks, at the margins of calm seawater, on the beach east of St Annes. A view lookin south across the River Ribble Estuary.
