On the original the plus men arerepresented by an area of solid blues, and the minusmen by an area of solid red. The record reproduced isthat of Division 4, surface lines, Boston Elevated Rail-way. Similar records are made also for the subwayand elevated lines. The Boston Elevated Railway isnow using 419 Rico coasting recorders. Treated Car Roofing The desirability of using a roof covering that willeffectively withstand severe weather conditions and thefading due to strong sunshine led to the introductionsome time ago of Bayonne car roofing by John Boyle& Company, Inc., New York. This car roofing is aspecial woven cotton fabric treated with a waterproofpreservative preparation. This liquid preservative isapplied evenly and smoothly to the fabric as the latteris fed into a machine. The fabric is then run throughheavy pressure rollers, which force the liquid into thecloth
