GPM satellite constellation. Illustration of the Earth with the orbits of some of the satellites of the multinational Global Precipitation Measurement (GPM) network. The core GPM satellite (white, launched 2014) carries radar and radiometer instruments to calibrate observations made by other satellites. Those shown here include Megha-Tropiques, Suomi NPP (National Polar-orbiting Partnership), GCOM (Global Change Observation Mission), DMSP (Defense Meteorological Satellite Program), JPSS (Joint Polar Satellite System), NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration), and DWSS (Defense Weather Satellite System, now cancelled).
